Medical center foundation, auxiliary hold successful fundraisers

Despite many challenges in 2020, Greene County Medical Center finished up with successful fundraising holiday events last week. The annual Foundation Tree of Life event was held Thursday, Dec. 10. Many community members joined the Facebook live event to watch this year as a Covid-19 precaution versus having a full in-person event.

There were 44 ornaments purchased this year in memory of loved ones who have died, with donations totaling $1,100. The medical center foundation will use the funds to support healthcare services and programs, updated equipment, technology, capital improvements, and  scholarships for local students pursing a healthcare career.

On Friday, Dec. 11, the Auxiliary Holiday of Lights event finished up. There were 37 items that sold for $2,235. For the Holiday of Lights event, employees and auxiliary members decorate and donate trees, wreaths and baskets to be bid on.

The auxiliary has been impacted greatly by from Covid-19. Due to precautions the auxiliary had to cancel some of its most popular events, including the salad luncheon and holiday candy/bake sale. The auxiliary also had to cut back on days that the Auxiliary Gift Garden is open. All money raised by the auxiliary goes back to benefit Greene County Medical Center.

“We are thankful to be able to hold a few holiday events this year during Covid-19. Having the Holiday of Lights set up in our lobby helped bring some holiday joy to the medical center during these times. Both events were very successful this holiday season,” said Nancy Houska, foundation director at Greene County Medical Center.

Another way to make a positive impact on the medical center this holiday season is to make a donation to the Foundation. Anyone interested in a tax-deductible end of the year donation can visit, gcmchealth.com/foundation to learn more.
